Residents Stories

Michael, St. Leonards House

Michael Jones, a native of Hornsey, north London, became a resident of St Leonard’s in 2016 after a total of about 35 years abroad in Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Cairo.

His greatest shock upon his return to Britain, he says, was the dreadful state of the English language, that bus stops had mobs instead of queues and there was no escape from the intrusion of incessant one-sided mobile phone conversations!

A retired English language teacher, Michael has revived his early interest in writing to focus his creative drive on poetry composition.  He finds the ambience of a Wetherspoon’s pub conducive to his creative process, which is to be acknowledged by Wetherspoon in the company’s quarterly magazine.

Incidentally, Michael accomplished his 80th journey around the Sun in February this year🤗.
